Let’s investigate one of the most ridiculed propositions of Christianity
One of the most important building blocks in Christianity is Virgin Mary. History is full of speculations whether she was a virgin or not. True believers hold on to what the Bible say; she was a virgin. Those who think they know better because they think they know science say that virgin birth is not possible. The Norwegians these days blame the mailman in the postal service’s Christmas ad on television. Many feel offended.
Let’s take a closer look. You can be quite sure that the first thing they did to her when it became obvious that she was pregnant was to spread her legs to check if the hymen was still there. And it was.
Is virgin birth even possible?
Science says it is – what does it mean for your faith?
Is it really possible?
This is 2 000 years ago. What did they know and what did they not know? They knew a lot of things, but they didn’t know that sperm can swim! So he didn’t have to penetrate her to deliver the goods, they are fully capable to find their way if delivered close by. There are a few babies born by virgins these days too. But it’s no big deal, because we now know that sperm can swim. And if there is doubts about the father, there are DNA tests.
But the Jews didn’t know then and most Christians will not acknowledge this as a possibility today. With today’s science we can say for sure that virgin birth is possible. Even quite easy to accomplish. So what is the problem? As science goes forward our religious truths are challenged. It brings one big, essential question forward: With this new knowledge,- does it make God bigger or smaller to you? I hope you find it possible in your heart to let Him grow. After all, there is no place or nothing that God isn’t. Like it or not.
All or nothing?
Can you broaden your horizon and not lose your faith?
A lot of people chose the easy way. If it is not exactly as it is written, let’s throw it all away. What a waste, and very sad. It’s too much of a mind stretch for most people to take the effort so they can understand where the science and the myths are meeting. Because they are. If you care to investigate deep enough. If you are willing to give up your prejudices and widen your horizons. You will not fall out of Gods hand. You will not lose your faith. You will not change path from being on your way to Heaven to going directly to Hell. You will only achieve to be more in tune with the true God essence within. Within you and all creation. Scary? Off course. But worth the effort.
Maybe it is worth some contemplation during Christmas?
